Community First Foundation and Bonfils Blood Center Create Long-Term Funding Partnership

ARVADA, CO (February 24, 2015) – Community First Foundation is pleased to announce a new endowment partnership with Bonfils Blood Center to help provide lifesaving blood and blood products to those in need for many decades to come.

“Each year, Bonfils Blood Center provides timely and reliable access to lifesaving blood products to as many as 450,000 patients in Colorado and beyond,” said Jessica Maitland, Bonfils Blood Center vice president of marketing and community development. “We count on the continual support of our community in the form of blood and financial donations to ensure we fulfill our mission. This endowment fund helps secure our commitment to our community now and for future generations.”

Bonfils Blood Center, which was founded 70 years ago and now provides Colorado with the majority of its blood supply, set aside $150,000 to begin the endowment fund. An endowment is a long-term fund, invested for the future needs of an organization. While some donors like their charitable gifts to be applied to immediate needs, others want to leave a legacy. An endowment gives donors options.

“By establishing an endowment we’re offering an additional opportunity for community members who want to save lives with us through financial gifts,” said Julie Scott, foundation director for Bonfils Blood Center. “This endowment can help us offset the high costs of running the blood center. While it provides a regular revenue stream, funds are protected and growing each year to maximize the impact of a donor’s gift, which will ensure we can continue to carry out our mission both today and for another 70-plus years to come,” said Scott.

Distributions from the endowment will be used to fund Bonfils Blood Center’s everyday lifesaving operations, which include recruiting, collecting, testing and distributing donated blood and blood products as well as educational and equipment maintenance and upgrade costs to best serve the community, said Scott.

“Community First Foundation has a long track record of success as a trusted community partner,” said Scott. “We have partnered with them since 2010 when the first Colorado Gives Day was held. We are thrilled this endowment expands our partnership.”
