52 Jeffco nonprofits receive grant to boost nonprofit capacity in Jefferson County

Community First Foundation is awarding $15,000 to 52 Jeffco nonprofits to help them build organizational capacity.

“We are thrilled to be giving an unrestricted grant to local nonprofits to help them build organizational capacity and complete some of those projects they’ve been unable to complete, or that they always wished they could do,” said Jaime Aguilar, program officer for Community First Foundation.

“Nonprofits often feel like they are wearing too many hats and doing it all,” Aguilar added. “We hope this funding helps those organizations with small staffs or that lack the expertise or money needed to accomplish their missions by taking off one or two of those hats they wear.”

Seventy-four applications were submitted and of the 52 grantees, two-thirds of projects (66%) were marketing and communications related, followed by technology needs (13%), strategy (8%), development (7%) and staffing/human resources (6%).

All applicants, including those not awarded a grant, receive a one-year membership to Community First Foundation’s Catchafire Cohort, which provides professional volunteer support to help nonprofits complete projects. To date, the Catchafire program has completed 251 projects, saving Jeffco nonprofits more than $900,000.

Additionally, organizations not receiving a grant are eligible for one of two $5,000 bonus grants if they complete projects through the Foundation’s Catchafire platform. The more projects they complete, the more entries they get into a random grant drawing.

Through these capacity-building projects and grants, Community First Foundation hopes to strengthen Jeffco nonprofit capacity to support organization’s abilities to develop their teams, plan for the future, and ultimately, make good happen for the communities they serve.
