Colorado Anti-Violence Program Earns Grant from Community First Foundation

ARVADA, CO (January 8, 2014) – Community First Foundation is pleased to announce a $25,000 grant awarded to the Colorado Anti-Violence Program (CAVP) last month. The funds will be used to deliver medical provider training and develop a public awareness campaign for improving health outcomes for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) individuals throughout Colorado.

Eleanor Dewey, co-executive director of CAVP, expressed the organization’s gratitude and vision, “With the support of the Community First Foundation, the Colorado Anti-Violence Program is thrilled to launch a new health justice campaign,” she said. “We’re excited to use our expertise in training health care providers and launching innovative multimedia campaigns to champion health care rights, coverage and access for all LGBTQ communities.”

The Colorado Anti-Violence Program offers trainings, case consultation and technical assistance to providers who work with LGBTQ survivors of violence – with the goals of increasing access to services and resources, while ensuring fair and culturally relevant services for LGBTQ survivors. The program works with a variety of groups, including victim advocates, domestic violence and homeless shelters, law enforcement, community groups, healthcare professionals and other service providers.

About the Colorado Anti-Violence Program
Since 1986 the Colorado Anti-Violence Program has been dedicated to eliminating violence within and against the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) communities in Colorado, and providing the highest quality services to survivors. CAVP seeks to address violence on a community-based level; instead of relying on police and prisons, they develop processes to maintain the humanity of survivors, victims and those who cause harm.
